Devon

Hello!
My name is Devon. I am a 33 year-old woman who has been eating strictly a primal/paleo diet for the past 14 months (June 2012 to current). I began this lifestyle about 3 years ago and added a CrossFit regimen about a year later. For most of my primal life I allowed myself cheat meals here and there as well as a couple of ridiculous vacation binges (honeymoon through Europe). The reason I became completely strict with the diet is because of my decision to make another person. I made an agreement with my husband that if I was going to have a baby, I would eat as cleanly as possible. For me, my husband and other people in the primal community, this means only meats, nuts and seeds, vegetables, some fruits, little starch and no sugar. To us this is the healthiest way a human can eat. I don't eat dairy, legumes, peanuts, soy, grains of ANY kind and any sugar that is not natural to fruits.

This blog is an account of my first pregnancy experiences, questions and research.
I hope to help readers with answers to the questions I have asked myself. Most importantly, what is this whole pregnancy about? How can I be the healthiest possible environment for a baby? And, what the hell is going on with my body? How do I stay primal while pregnant? What do I eat and how will it affect my baby? Where do I get the proper nutrients for each trimester?

For those of you beginning this journey yourselves or just curious moms - I wish you a happy, healthy and informed pregnancy!
